Las Vegas, Seattle and Christmas

Christmas 2014 is now behind us.  We made it to Washington without too many flight problems and were able to spend Christmas with our family.  Travel wasn’t necessarily easy but we got there.  We had hoped to make a direct flight Saturday night from Phoenix to Portland but that would have definitely been too easy.  An earlier flight arriving into Phoenix had been late.  The passengers from that flight were rebooked on the one we intended to take.  That’s all it took to put a little havoc into our plans.  We ended up taking a midnight flight to Las Vegas and the following morning grabbed another flight to Seattle.  As it happened, our daughter was in Seattle so she swung by the airport there and picked us up.

For the next few days we were fairly busy.  Getting around is not a problem since we have another vehicle that doesn’t come with us on the road.   We visited, we shopped, we wrapped and we ate plenty.  We had ordered a rustic TV table made by a local woodworker so were a little anxious to take a look at the table.  The table had been delivered to our “cabin” so decided to take a trip up there and check it out.

The roads were good and with temperatures in the 50’s there was no snow in sight.   The local deer were happy to see us.  They were hoping for a hand-out but we didn’t have any food to share with them.

We spent Christmas Eve at Tammi and Robert’s house playing games and winning gift cards.  Of course, I won the first two sets of games -- Trailer Park Wars and Spades (Of course!).  However, when it came to shooting at targets, I didn’t do so well.  Christmas Day was spent at Lee and Sabrina’s.  We unwrapped gifts, stuffed ourselves with food and again it was another great day spent with those we love.

Flying at Christmas time isn’t always easy.  There are just way too many people out there trying to do the same thing.  We had to tackle the crowds at the airport on Friday to get back to Arizona and hoped to be on our way early.  We were lucky and snagged seats on the first flight out.  I used to love the early flights but it seems that when we plan for them, we don’t sleep much at night.

We’re back in Arizona.  Terry’s mom had some outpatient surgery while we were gone and is scheduled for more surgery next week.  His uncle arrives in a couple days and I’m thinking we’ll be around here a while.

Departure was before the crack of dawn.

January is just around the corner.  That will be one busy month for us.  Terry has to be back in Portland on the 7th for another doctor appointment.  We’re also hoping to make a return trip to Hawaii on the 12th.  After that, it’s boondocking in Quartzsite for a few days.

‘Tis life on the road
