More Seafood and Mexican Food

“Laughter is the shock absorber that eases the blows of life.”

We’ve overstayed our welcome and the crabs are getting tired of us visiting their buffet. Friday night was the third time we have gone to the Quechan Casino for their top-of-the-line Friday night seafood buffet. Again, it is the best one we have ever seen. First,, we went with cousins, Wally and Suzie, then with the Hyders and last of all with the Dixons and their friend, Evelyn.

It’s not only the seafood that is great, it is everything else too. Check out my plate and then take a look at Terry’s. He’s not much of a seafood eater but did okay anyway.

So look at all the seafood .. again. There is calamari, salmon, shrimp, clams, coconut cod and crab. Well, a few other things are on that plate too including asparagus in hollandaise sauce, carrots underneath it all and a potato wedge or two. Did I eat it all? beef No. My eyes were bigger than my stomach or so the saying goes. What I did eat was fantastic.

We did agree that on Saturday we weren’t going out to breakfast for the breakfast special again. I think we’ve all had enough casino eating for a while.

We found a unique set of cups. These are coffee mugs. Even though it looks like half the cup is below the saucer and the other half above, that it is not the case. The bottom looks like the old kettles that fit in the wood burning stoves tocup2 add moisture to a house. However, what you see that looks like the bottom of the cup is really the saucer. The cup is just the part above the saucer. Whoever bought those for the casino did so because they were cute but not functional. Rarely do I prefer a styrofoam cup manjaresbut both Jim and I asked for one. The top of these cups angle in. For a good sip of coffee, you have to angle in yourself and then roll your lips on top. They were really, really weird but absolutely worth sharing with you.

Saturday dinner was Mexican food … but not casino food. Sandie tracked down a very unique one. It was Los Manjares de Pepe. The restaurant is in a converted house and the reviews were very good. Dinner was for six of us including our new visitors, John and Dianne. They are on their way to Alaska.manj_grp

The weather is getting warmer in Yuma. It’s been running in the mid-80’s. Now that’s normally not too awfully hot but it can be if you’re dry camping and can’t run your air conditioner all the time. It can get pretty toasty inside a motorhome. The good thing is that it has been chilly at night.

Off to the Palm Springs Thousand Trails park today. It’s only about 150 miles so I think we can actually make it in one day. Matter of fact, it’ll be a short day. We’ll be there about a week .. maybe longer and then over the mountains as we move up to central California …. someplace.
