Quartzsite Arrival - 2010

"You can find your way across this country using burger joints the way a navigator uses stars." - Charles Kuralt

We made it! We're finally (and I do mean finally) at the biggest RV rally in the U.S. Oh, it's not considered a rally but when you put thousands of thousands of RVs in just a few square miles I'm not sure what else you would call. Without a doubt it's the largest collection of RVs ever in one location. The morning started out pretty much as planned. We had put away all our outside items. The barbecue was in its slot, tables put away, lights down, sunscreen neatly folded and stashed. We were pretty much ready to pull out the night before other than a morning dump, slides in and antenna stored. We find when we're ready to move, we're less likely to forget something if we're not rushed.

The plan was to meet up with Jim and Sandie at the Flying J (mm 103 but was really a TA) west of Phoenix around 11:00. We needed propane and fuel. We also knew fuel would be more expensive in Quartzsite. We figured the overall drive from the Phoenix area to "Q" would be about two hours and we wanted to wait until the morning work traffic was outta-there.

However, plans don't always work out like you think they will. Jim and Sandie had a few vehicle problems getting out of Apache Junction so we went on, checked out the area and met them as they arrived in town.

Our initial impression was that "Q" hadn't changed much from the beginning of January in 2009. However, it was a lot different from October when we raced through on our way to Florida. Then, it was almost like a ghost town. Now it was starting to pop with activities. Many of the vendors were in place and it appeared everything was getting ready for the big event and the arrival of all the snowbirds.

Arriving at LaPosa South was an easy task this time of the month. Towards the end of the month vehicles flood the roads causing tremendous congestion.

The weather was cooperating. It's no wonder so many folks converge on this area. When cold weather is happening all over the U.S., this is certainly the place to be.

Jim & Sandie -------->

Coming from the east the exit off of the freeway is at MM 19 (from the west it is at MM17). It's a quick exit as the next left turn put us right on business I-10 / Main Street. Down the road 1.6 miles is Central Blvd. This is where we made a left turn at the green light and went over the freeway to LaPosa South .... on the left just under 3 miles. There is a Visitor Center there and we pulled out of the road behind the building to check in and pay our fee. Once all the paperwork was done, it was off to get set up in the perfect spot. And, we found it. It's close enough to the "utilities" of LaPosa South that we can judge the right time without being in a long line.

With the campsite pretty much setup, it was off for Mexican food. Tomorrow's another day and we'll check out the town and the vendors then. For now, we're happy with where we're at. Our space is huge, our screen room isn't flooded, internet is great, satellite couldn't be better and there is no ice or snow.

Things are good.
