"Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts." - A.Bennett
The RV's are continuing to pour into Quartzsite. The Big Tent opens on Saturday so the busy days are still ahead of us. In the meantime, we've continued to entertain ourselves as we shop with the vendors, eat at the local restaurants and enjoy a campfire most every night.
Not everyone is cut out to boondock in the desert. Not having electricity to plug into can be very difficult for some to get used to. It just isn't always easy. Boondocking requires either solar panels or a generator and it also means conserving water if you plan on spending more than a few days at it. If you're parked with a group, the socializing with each other is the reward and what it's really all about. Another benefit is the size of your RV space since
you're not crammed into a small one at an RV park. However, it isn't for everyone. We had two units pull out yesterday. We have at least two more units pulling in within the next few days. You win some and you lose some. Bottom line .... we're really with a great group and have enjoyed them tremendously. It would be interesting to know the median age of folks currently in the town of Quartzsite. Right now I would guess it's probably about 70+ years old (of course, this is excluding our group where the median age is 40). I'm sure you can guess how difficult it makes driving and just getting around with all these old-folks. Some of them are still in the get-up-and-go stage of their lives while others are so slow it makes you wonder how they actually got here. It also makes it very annoying when driving a
round town. In addition, to the slow-slow folks, there are a lot of lookers. We followed a few slow-pokes the other day giving them a piece of our mind (in the privacy of our car, of course). When we realized the people in that car was a part of our group, we had to laugh!! We'll never tell who it was but will give them the benefit and say they were just lurking. Anyway, even shopping is difficult as well as picking up mail at the post office. The lines are long and people don't seem to try to hurry ... but, whatever for? There's no pl
ace else to go but another line.

The eating out continues and even though many of the restaurant owners know this is the busiest and craziest time of the year, some still don't plan for it. The other night all of us went to Grubstake for dinner. Sandie asked for the checks and asked for the checks and asked for the checks. When we finally stood up a half an hour later the owner came crashing out of the kitchen. In our opinion he's a very nasty man. Most enjoyed the food but it's mainly deep fried stuff anyway and we just know we will never go there again .... mainly because of the owner. We're here to have a pleasant time and not otherwise. We did find a couple gems for breakfast. One was Bad Boys Cafe across from Rice Ranch and the other was a little trailer parked close to Too Crazy Ladies in between the vendors. My egg, toast, hash browns and coffee cost $3.25 at the trailer and, it was good!
Yesterday Mr. Spiker drove over from the Phoenix area to visit. It was a nice visit and we all enjoyed chatting. And, of course, when dinner time rolled around it was off to Best Mexican for dinner. We've eaten there a couple of times and have always had a great meal and a pleasant experience.
There was no campfire last night. It was too windy but tonight we will certainly enjoy it with everyone else.
Life is good.
